What Is Postpartum?

🌿 Understanding the Postpartum Period

The postpartum period begins immediately after childbirth and is often referred to as the "fourth trimester." While traditionally considered to span the first six weeks, the truth is that emotional, physical, and mental recovery can take many months—or even longer. This is a profound time of adjustment, healing, and transformation.


During the postpartum period, new parents experience significant changes in nearly every area of life. The body is healing from birth, hormones are shifting, sleep is often disrupted, and emotions can feel intense or unpredictable. At the same time, individuals are learning to care for a newborn, navigating changes in their identity, and adapting to a new family dynamic. It is a time of deep love, vulnerability, and learning.


Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, each postpartum journey is unique. No two experiences are alike, and there is no one "right" way to feel, heal, or parent.
